Hi everyone, typing this in English as my portuguese isn't great. I've been self-employed in Portugal for a few years after working for Portuguese entities for a few years. My OB wants me to go on baixa starting in June, but my seguranca social contributions show my remunerations are much lower than what I actually earned. My quarterly statements show my actual earnings, but when I look at the summary of my career, it states my contribution as 6270/ month, which is about half of what I've actually earned on average according to my quarterly report. I think this is the max allowed for trabalhador independente.

Would it make sense for me to continue working and just take lots of holiday in June and July because I will earn more than what I would take home from baixa de risco?

Thanks!

Hi Marissa. That's it your income reaches the top. Please discuss the possibility of holidays with your doctor. But do remember when the baby comes you will most certainly be on maternity leave, right? If your doctor wants you to be on sick paid for pregnancy he must have a reason, right? It depends on your job and how far long you are in the pregnancy. But it comes a time we need to slow down and star prioritizing others things than work, don't you think? Maybe that time is about to come. Best wishes.
